KBB – Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom Show Birmingham 2018

In our continued pursuit of innovative kitchen and bedroom design inspiration Meridien interiors have just returned from a visit to the 2018 KBB show, and are excited by the future of British interior design.

The KBB show, Kitchen Bedroom and Bathroom show is the industry’s largest trade show in Europe. A biennial event in 2018 it brought together an estimated 400 exhibiting KBB brands and 16,000 influential buying professionals.

Meridien Interiors send a contingent to each KBB show to ensure our ideas are fresh and on the cusp of modern fashion. And to network with fellow kitchen design professionals and of course meet with existing and potential suppliers.

Caple were showing some new appliances. A brand which we specify regularly, especially for our multi property contract kitchen fitting work, Caple are well respected within the industry. Their dedication to quality and customer service matches even that of far better-known brands but at a better value cost.

Caple pulled out all the stops with their stand this year. The whole display had the feel of a fully fitted loft apartment style kitchen. On show was the new-look Sense range of high-performance kitchen cooking appliances. They also showcased their signature Sense Premium range. Which has undergone a fresh and new redesign for 2018. Both ranges look fantastic and we can’t wait to begin specifying them.

Also, of interest was a new compact laminate worktop material from Formica, ca;;ed Infiniti it is similar to the 12.5mm Polyrey offering. This particular laminate is designed to be suitable for kitchen worktops.
A dense compact board material it features a colour core so that cutouts are not unsightly, and the material looks consistent throughout the depth of its material. Sink cutouts can be done by CNC or on site and the core colour options are black or white. You can even route sink drainer grooves into the material similar to quartz or stone kitchen worktops.

More traditionally utilised in the washroom and bathroom industries we anticipate increased usage of this material in the kitchen industry over the coming years. It is versatile and flexible and offers increased options at a price point we anticipate being between traditional laminate and quartz materials.

Other stands we visited included AEG and Airuno both of whom were showing down draft extractors something we at Meridien Interiors have also seen increased demand for. With the addition of built in plasma generators at the upper end of the market. Designed to destroys germs and odours in the air extracted, the technology is beginning to mature. Something we are keeping a very close eye on since we already have many projects in the pipeline which would benefit from this.
